Don L. Bohanan, Sr., 81,  of Gilson, IL, died at home at 2 a.m. on September 10, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.  His family surrounded him at his bed side at the time of his death.   Don was born on December 19, 1924 in Farmington, IL, the son of Franklin and Verna Coon Bohanan.  He married Rosie W. Winchell on October 19, 1943.  She passed away on April 13, 1983.  He married Carol Morris, the daughter of the late Floyd Morris and Louise Foster, on June 13, 2004.  She survives.  Also surviving are one son:  Don L. (Shirley) Bohanan, Jr. of Gilson;  2 daughters:  D. Sue Bucher of Gentry, AR and Rev. Jennie E. (Edward) Cauwels of Colona, IL.  He is also survived by two step-children:  Christina Smith and Robert Smith, both of Galesburg.  Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  He also had many nieces and nephews he loved dearly.  He was preceded in death by one son, Danny Eugene, one granddaughter, Rose Bucher, one grandson, Don L. Bohanan, III, his parents, his step-father Hugh Hick, two sisters:  Lurla Bennett and Virginia Ring; five brothers:  Dwight, James, Ralph, William, and Shelby Dean.   Don served in the US Army during WW II.  He was a carpenter by trade but also worked for Caterpillar, Helly’s Saw Mill, and Gunther Construction.  He also served as Road Commissioner for Orange Township for a period of 12 years.   Don was a good man.  He worked hard, loved God and his family.  He will be missed by all.  Funeral Services will be on Thursday September 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Watson Funeral Home, Galesburg, with the Rev. Milton Marquith officiating.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Gilson Cemetery, Gilson, Illinois, with military honors being performed by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.  Memorials may be made to the family.
