Raymond H. Dowd, 63, of Galesburg, died at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Galesburg. Ray was born on August 29, 1953 in Galesburg, the son of William and Bernice S. Cofield Dowd, Jr. Ray is survived by two sons, Terrance T. Dowd of Las Crucas, NM and William H. Dowd of Key West, FL; one brother, Ed (Hannelore) Dowd of Oskaloosa, IA; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by longtime friend Cynthia Deffebaugh of East Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ray worked at Butler Mfg. for several years. He was also a very talented auto mechanic and taught small engine repair through Carl Sandburg College at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center for over 8 years. Ray also worked at KCCDD for several years. Ray loved his dogs, especially Boo, and was an obedience trainer for German Shepherds for many years. He loved maintaining his cars in showroom quality. He also enjoyed rock hunting and making jewelry. He currently was a storm tracker. Ray was also a survivalist and primitive camper. He loved watching NASCAR. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Harold Boyd will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following funeral services.
