Alice G. Egan, 89, of 161 N. Lake Storey Rd, Galesburg, died at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, November 01, 2006 at home.   She was born on March 19, 1917 in Rio the daughter of Michael H. and Nora Powers Hambsch.  She married T. Ross Egan on May 31, 1947 in Galesburg.  He died on July 25, 2002.  Surviving are 2 sons Thomas (Carol) and William (Sheryl - deceased) Egan both of Galesburg.  Also surviving are 2 grandsons Tom and Pat Egan.  Preceding Alice in death was one daughter Mary Frances Egan on May 19, 1995, 3 brothers and 1 sister.   Alice graduated from St. Joseph Academy and Brown’s Business College. Alice worked in Knox County Housing Authority for 50 years, starting as Executive Secretary to Joseph West, in September of 1966 she was appointed Executive Administrative Director and in December of 1966 she was appointed Director of the Knox County Housing Authority, a position she held until her retirement on March 31, 1998.  Alice was instrumental in the 1961 formation of and ongoing activities of the Illinois Association of Housing Authorities, serving in many capacities and as president in 1978.  She was active in the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, NAHRO, and the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association, PHADA, she was a board member of the American Red Cross and Fidelity Federal Bank. She was on the Henry C. Hill Review Board.  Alice was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, on the finance committee, a member of the Ladies of Mary, and was the bookkeeper at the church for 50 years.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday November 4, 2006 at Immaculate Heart of Mary with the Reverend Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. on Friday November 3, 2006 at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m.  Memorials may be made to M.F. Egan Scholarship Fund at KCCDD or to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
