Armand “Dean” Hughs, 72, of Galesburg, died at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at home with his family by his side. Dean was born January 20, 1940 in Galesburg, the son of Marion “Wayne” and Jessie (Gardner) Hughs.  He married Carol Etzel on November 29, 1963 in Galesburg.  Dean is survived by his wife Carol of Galesburg; two daughters, Gayle (and Rick) Mejia and Amy (and Chad) Simmons both of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Lauren Mejia, Cpl Scot Mejia, USMC, and Connor Simmons; and one great granddaughter, Myah Emily Triplett.  Dean is also survived by numerous cousins including Max Hughs, who was like a brother. Dean loved to be with his family and he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.  He was an avid fisherman and was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. Dean served in the US Army from November 1959 to November 1962.   Dean worked for Frito Lay for 26 years, retiring in 2002. Funeral services for Dean will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home.  Rev. David Scholl will officiate.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.   Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
