Augustine Berthe Ouamba, 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died peacefully at home, Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Augustine was born May 15, 1944 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, Africa, the daughter of François Matiala and Germaine Maleka. Augustine attended and graduated from a four year university in Africa and worked as a manager at a retail store in Africa before emigrating to the United States.
Augustine is survived by her family in Africa and her community here in the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and one infant daughter.
Augustine loved America, and as a faithful Catholic attended mass regularly at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She also thoroughly enjoyed watching television.
Visitation with prayers will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral Mass for Augustine will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Burial will follow at East Linwood Cemetery.
