Barbara H. Johnson

Barbara Johnson, 71, of Woodridge Living Center formerly of 783 Franklin Ave., Galesburg, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday May 2, 2009 at Rosewood Care Center.   Barbara was born on February 20, 1938 in Glen Head, NY, the daughter of Stanley and Helen Opalaski Buckowski. She married Warren Johnson on February 21, 1960 in Port Washington, NY. Surviving Barbara are her husband, Warren of Galesburg; one son, Warren “Buck” (and Judy) Johnson of Decatur; one daughter, Christine Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; and one sister, Patricia Pupa of Tiffin, OH. Also surviving are a step grandson, Jason Wells; and a step great grandson, Jadon Wells both of Springfield.   Barbara graduated from Mary Immaculate School of Nursing, Jamaica, NY. She first worked as a RN at Bellevue Hospital in New York, then at a hospital in Kalamazoo, MI prior to moving to Galesburg. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the ladies of Mary, and had taught CCD for several years. She was a classical pianist.   Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Immaculate Heart of Mary, with Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m.   Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials may be made to the National MS Society.
