Barbara J. (Bellis) Harpman, 72, of Galesburg, formerly of Victoria, died Sunday September 18, 2011 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg. Barb was born on January 16, 1939 the daughter of Joseph G. and Frances (Botruff) Bellis. She married Richard L. Harpman on August 6, 1966 in Wataga. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2008. Barb is survived by her mother, Frances Bellis of Galesburg; one son, Mark (Renee) Spenny of Hanna City; and three daughters, Julie (Brian) Kaminski of Carol Stream, Cara Bannon of Channahon, and Amy Harpman of Williamsfield. Barb is also survived by one sister, Merrily (Ralph) Sargent of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Brandon and Ambra Haake; and four great grandchildren. Barb worked as a secretary for many years in Galesburg, working at the State Research Hospital, IDES, and last worked at Henry C. Hill Correctional Center, retiring in 1996. When her children were growing up, Barb was a very active Mom, she was involved in PTA, Brownies and Girl scouts. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga, and was a member of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). She always had time to talk and truly enjoyed visiting with people. Barb loved animals. Funeral services for Barb are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, with Reverends Jan Bengston and Robert Franek officiating. Burial will follow in Victoria Cemetery, Victoria. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
