Berneice Hampsmire

Berneice Hampsmire, 86, of Galesburg, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Rosewood Care Center. Berneice was born June 25, 1927 in Champaign, the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth (Brainard) Gemming.  She married Forrest Hampsmire on September 23, 1950 in Carthage.  He preceded her in death on December 20, 2010.  Berneice is survived by two sons, Samuel (Linda) Mason of Palmyra, MO and Bryan (Rosetta) Hampsmire of Springfield; two daughters, Susan Martinson and Sylvia (Robert) Wade, both of Galesburg; 22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and another one due August 19, 2103.  She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Berneice enjoyed camping and travelling with Forrest in his semi.  She also truly enjoyed being surrounded and spending time with her family. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  Pastor Darrell Garrett will officiate.  Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw, IL.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
