Bernice L. Mundy

Bernice L. Mundy, 93, of 275 E. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg formerly of 706 W. Brooks St., Galesburg, died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Marigold Health Care. Bernice was born on December 20, 1914 in Rapid City, the daughter of Mannie E. and Grace D. Cewe Wallace. She married Marshall A. Mundy, Jr. in 1938. They later divorced. He died in 1999. Surviving Bernice are 2 sons, James E. Mundy of Rural Galesburg and John M. Mundy of Galesburg; 2 daughters, Jeanette “Sue” Baker and Barbara J. Mundy both of Galesburg; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson Daniel. Bernice graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1933. She then graduated St. Francis School of Nursing in 1936. She was a Registered Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. She then worked for Dr. Smart, and last worked at the Knox County Nursing Home until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 18, 2008 at Corpus Christi Church. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy or to Corpus Christi Church
