Betty A. Smith

Betty Arlene Smith, age 78, of 1400 N. Prairie St. Galesburg, died at 6 p.m. on May 12, 2006 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg. Betty was born on March 9, 1928 in Little York the daughter of Lloyd E. and Margaret E. Carson Shughart. She married Richard C. Smith on February 27, 1957 in Galesburg, Illinois. He died on April 19, 1998. Betty is survived by one son; Thomas of Galesburg. 2 Sisters; Vivian S. Hottle of Monmouth and Fayanne (Leslie) Horrell of Kankakee. Betty lived in Little York until 1943 when she moved to Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth H.S. in 1946. She lived in Monmouth until 1947 when she moved to Galesburg. Betty was a court reporter for the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Illinois for 30 years until she retired on October 31, 1993. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Galesburg. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Women’s International Bowling Association. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at Watson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
