Boyd L. Curtis, 87, of Galesburg, died on Sunday, September 4, 2016, 8:25 AM, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, following a brief illness. Boyd was born January 8, 1928 in Gladstone, Illinois. He was the son of Waldo and Helen (Petherbridge) Curtis. He married his wife, Ruby Marie (Woods) Allen on December 23, 1965 in Galesburg. Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Ruby of Galesburg; six children, Tom (Patty) Curtis of Burlington, Iowa, Mike Curtis of Galesburg, Everett (Susie) Ferguson of Davenport, Chuck Allen of Galesburg, Judy (Bruce) McGriff of Naperville, Linda Ferguson of Hamilton; several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Boyd attended Oquawka High School. He was a veteran of the US Army. For 31 years, Boyd worked at Gale Products, until his retirement in 1984. He was a skilled carpenter; he built dollhouses, garages, decks, sheds and also did remodeling. Boyd loved fishing, especially channel catfish. They spent many vacations fishing at their cabin in Wisconsin. He was a loving, caring, and compassionate man. Boyd and Ruby were married for 50 years, always worked together, enjoyed fishing, cooking and family projects. Boyd is especially remembered for his perfectly fried catfish. Per Boyd’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016, 1 PM at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Military honors will be conducted following services. Mark Dawdy will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the family to decide at a later date.
