Bruce W. Wilder

Mr. Bruce W. Wilder, 88, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 2:27 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2024 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Bruce was born December 6, 1935 in Galesburg, the son of Louise and Don Wilder, Sr. He attended and graduated from Galesburg High School. After graduation, he worked briefly at the Galesburg Register Mail and for a short time at Burlington Northern Railroad. He soon gained employment at Butler Steel Manufacturing Company for 47 years as a crane operator. His favorite activities were going to the horse races and casino.

Bruce leaves behind his daughter, Cindy Wilder of Galesburg; his “lesson in life” daughter, Denise Deffebaugh of Galesburg; a sister, Shirley Taylor and a sister-in-law, Frances Wilder both of Galesburg; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; 3 nephews; and last but not least, he leaves his friend and caregiver, Ms. Pearl Wiley. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Wilder; and a brother, Donald Wilder.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. No public visitation will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
