Catherine A. Seper

Catherine Anna Seper, 75, of Galesburg, died peacefully Sunday May 16, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving siblings. Cathy was born May 11, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of William A. and Alice E. (McKeever) Riley.  She graduated Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, in 1964.  She then attended and graduated from University of Illinois Chicago in 1969 with a degree in Education.  She went on to a career in education, teaching in Steger, Crete Monee, and Park Forest.  Cathy married Stephen J. Seper on July 31, 1971 in Park Forest, IL.  He preceded her in death on January 18, 2014.  Cathy is survived by one daughter, Mary Theresa Seper of Galesburg; two sisters, Alice (Daniel) Chambers and Sister Rose Marie Riley, O.P.; one brother, William A. (Donna) Riley, Jr.; seven nieces; one nephew; and eighteen great nieces and nephews.  Along with her husband and parents, Cathy was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Seper on June 1, 2011 and Charles Seper on May 13, 2012. Cathy was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society and served as sacristan at OSF St. Mary Medical Center Chapel.  She was also a member of Sew for Christ Child Society, S.P.E.C. (Special People Encounter Christ), and was a Dominican Associate of the Springfield Dominicans.  In her free time Cathy enjoyed reading, sewing, taking long walks, and flower gardening. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  The rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Funeral Mass following.  Father Lee Brokaw.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic please follow CDC guidelines regarding masks.  Private family burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or to Trulson House, Galesburg.
