Charlene A. Coon

Charlene Ann Coon, 71, of Galesburg, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, in her home. Charlene was born on March 12, 1950, in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Garrett M. and Annie V. (Means) Larkins. She married Richard Coon in Galesburg on June 22, 1968. Charlene is survived by a daughter, Carrie (Jon) Short of Oskaloosa, IA; a grandson, Jacob Miller of Chicago, IL; and two brothers, Rodney (Sheila) Larkins of Knoxville, IL and Brian (Trudy) Larkins of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lynde Larkins and David Larkins. Charlene graduated from Galesburg High School.  She worked at Grimm’s Brothers Plastics for 15 years in Wapello, IA, up to her retirement in 2014. Charlene LOVED Christmas and brought the holiday spirit wherever she went. She loved to create new decoration ideas each season to outdo her previous years’ work. The most recent being the holiday gnomes in her front yard. Folks would come for miles to take photos of her yard each year. She also loved cooking and baking, whether it was her prime rib with twice baked potato cooked to perfection, or her perfectly decorated sugar cookies, she was always excited to share with her family and friends around her. Charlene enjoyed having a cup of coffee or tea and playing Yahtzee with her grandson until the sun came up. When she had time alone, she would have Hallmark movies playing in the background while she was in the kitchen attempting to perfect the perfect meringue pie. A celebration of life for Charlene will be held on September 25, 2021, at 10:30am, at the First Christian Church, 201 North Broad Street, Galesburg, IL, 61401. Memorials may be made to the family.
