Charles B. "Jackie" Kimbrough

Charles Bond "Jackie" Kimbrough, 70, of Galesburg, died at 9:13 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

He was born February 15, 1952 in Galesburg, the son of Frank and Hazel (Gullick) Kimbrough. Charles graduated from Galesburg High School in 1970. On July 14, 1970, Charles enlisted in the US Army and received his honorable discharge on February 11, 1972. Throughout his life he was proud of his service.

Charles is survived by one son, Justus Kimbrough of Portland, Oregon; three daughters: Tina Heck of Tacoma, Washington, Teonie Heck of Auburn, Washington, and Tralania Heck of Federal Way, Washington. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Taliya, Mekhi, and Maliya Johnson of Auburn, WA, Brandon and Teilani Heck of Federal Way, WA, and Olivia and Joseph Kimbrough of Portland, OR; one brother, Cleatis Goodlow of Portland, Oregon; and one sister, Deborah Kimbrough of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joseph Greene; four brothers: William Goodlow, Eugene Goodlow, Leroy Kimbrough, and James Kimbrough; and four sisters; Mary Jean Goodlow, Helen Shelton, Sheila Anne Taylor, and Grace Kimbrough.

Charles worked in construction for many years as a brick mason, later working for IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation). In his younger years Charles enjoyed photography. He was a talented artist, enjoying drafting, models, and design work. His hobbies included aviation, gardening, and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Charles will be remembered as a socialite who was the life of the party.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Pastor James Hailey and Minister Robert Donaldson will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
