Charles Jeffrey Luker, 81, of Galesburg, died Monday, August 30, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Charles was born April 11, 1940 in Edina, MO the son of Ralph Elmer and Virginia Ruth (Shumate) Luker. Charles married Christine Constance Johnson on May 20, 1961 in Galesburg. Their marriage brought four children. Christine died on August 18, 1985. Charles later married Shirley Mae Paxton on August 31, 2002 in Quincy. Charles is survived by his wife Shirley; two daughters, Kimberly Oliphant of Galesburg and Dawn (Tim) Rickard of Gilson; seven grandchildren; and two great grandsons. He is also survived by one brother, Stanton Luker of Wisconsin; one sister, Janie (David) Mason of Galesburg; three step sons; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Along with his parents and his first wife, Christine, Charles was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Richard Luker and Timothy David Luker; one brother, Ronald Hunt; and one sister, Judy Miller. Charles started working for Burlington Northern in 1960. His career spanned 47 years, retiring as an engineer in 2007. He loved going on walks, shopping for antiques, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed many hours fishing in his younger years. Charles will be remembered as an onery, funny, and dedicated man. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Galesburg Railroad Museum.
