Chester Francis Baranowski, 83, of 180 N. Henderson St., Galesburg, Illinois, died at 5:58 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois. Chester was born on March 23, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Stanislaus and Constance Kubicki Baranowski. He married Lorraine Sullivan on November 4, 1944 in San Francisco, California. She died on March 18, 2003. Chester is survived by 1 son, Michael (Mary) Baranowski of Seattle, Washington; 3 daughters, Patricia (James) Poole of Avon, Illinois; Theresa Kennedy of Galesburg, Illinois; and Kathleen (Kelly) Risbell of Edmonds, Washington; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Chester worked for the CCC during the Depression in the 1930’s. He later worked for John Deere as a Molder for over 20 years. Chester served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the Father J.O. Hunt Council 556 Knights of Columbus, the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, the Legion of Mary Auxiliary, and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Reverend Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 on Sunday March 25, 2007 at Watson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military rites performed by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
