Daniel Patrick Gallagher, 86, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully at home at 8:57 p.m. on December 22, 2010. Daniel was born on November 14, 1924 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan the son of Daniel and Gladys (Wooley) Gallagher, Sr. He married Gerry Darrah on September 6, 1947 at Corpus Christi Church, Galesburg. He is survived by his wife, Gerry of Galesburg; 2 daughters, Pat (and Doug) Allensworth of East Galesburg and Mary Polite of Hilton Head, SC; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alan. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946. Daniel worked as a lathe operator at Harvey Brothers Electric for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Knights of Columbus fourth degree, and was a past faithful navigator. He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and the senior circle at Cottage Hospital. Daniel was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was an avid golfer and spent many days playing golf at Laurel Greens. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with the Rev. Deus-Dedit Byabato officiating. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at Watson Funeral Home, Galesburg with the rosary being prayed at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, or the American Cancer Society.
