David L. Cox, Sr., 81, of Galesburg, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.
David was born June 23, 1941 in Frederic, Wisconsin, the son of Paul E. and Alberta E. (Belisle) Cox. He married Marjorie Irene Raymond on August 24, 1963 at St. Andrews Church in Rock Falls, Illinois. Marjorie preceded him in death on April 18, 2004. He is survived by two sons, David L. (Julie) Cox of Woodstock, Illinois and Charles R. (Michelle) Cox of Galesburg; two daughters, Sandra B. (Bill) Carson of Muskegon, Michigan and Krista L. (Bobby) Winters of Galesburg; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Along with his parents and wife, David was predeceased by one son, Scott K. Cox on April 9, 2010; four sisters; and four brothers.
David worked in a hospital where he apprenticed into respiratory therapy. His career lasted over 35 years working at numerous different hospitals including St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois, Katherine Shaw Bethe Hospital in Dixon, Illinois, Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois and hospitals in Ashland, Wisconsin and Eagle River Wisconsin. He retired in 1988. Being born in Wisconsin, David was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed watching wildlife especially deer and birds. He also looked forward to going to Friday night fish fry’s, drinking a good toddy, and in his later years watching “judge” shows on television.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
