David Lee Simpson, 72, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:01 p.m. in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.


Dave was born December 25, 1951, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Beatrice A. (Benge) and Richard H. Simpson. He married Janice Brewer. Together they had one daughter, Janel. After the death of Janice, Dave married Patricia Cook and they had two children, Benjamin and Rachael. He later married Jackie McDorman and had one daughter, Samantha.


Dave is survived by four daughters, Janel Simpson of Monmouth, Illinois, Rachael Abel of Keokuk, Iowa, Joy Armstrong of Abingdon, Illinois, and Samantha Simpson of Galesburg; three sons, David Heatherly, Benjamin (Michelle) Simpson of Omaha, Nebraska, and Michael Armstrong of Galesburg; one brother, Paul Simpson of Stronghurst, Illinois; and one sister, Carolyn Simpson of Galesburg. Dave is also survived by seven grandchildren, Aidan and Ava Simpson, Landon Creighton, Liam and Mila Armstrong, Shannia Swank, and Weston Evans. Including his parents and first wife, Dave was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Sickles; one granddaughter, Charlotte Sickles; four brothers, Richard, Gene, Mason, and Delbert; and four sisters, Stella Harlow, Mabel Hochstetler, Violet Craiger, and Elizabeth Moberly.


Dave owned and operated Simpsons Tuckpointing in Galesburg for many years. An accomplished musician, Dave loved playing his guitar, performing on his own and with bands for many years. He enjoyed drawing, reading, and learning about everything. He was an avid collector and enjoyed working on his family’s ancestry.


Cremation rites will be accorded. Private burial will be at a later date at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
