David Martin Anderson, 85, Galesburg, died peacefully at home on June 14, at 1:54 pm, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Dawn, Missouri, on July 21, 1927, the son of John and Josephine Anderson. Upon graduation from St. Brendan’s High School, in Mexico, Missouri, he served in the United States Merchant Marine (United States Coast Guard) from 1945-1948. David’s service to country continued as he was called to duty for an additional two years in the United States Army. David married Betty Noonan on November 28,1953 at Immaculate Conception Church, in Monmouth, Illinois. David spent his early career, in agriculture, farming in Roseville, Il. In 1961, he joined Galesburg Order Buyers/ Stockyard Feed Store where he worked in sales and operations. David became sole proprietor of the company in 1986, which in 1996 became known as GrainStore Elevators. He remained at the company helm, until 2010, when it was sold to Gavilon Grain. David is survived by, Betty, his wife of 59 years and his six sons Steve (Diane), Houston, Tx ; Marty (Lynn), Galesburg; Phil, Peoria; Tim (Beth), Galesburg; Bob (Maria), Lake Zurich; and Randy (Gretchen), Galesburg. David will be dearly missed by his eighteen grandchildren, Kate, Charlie, David, Amelia (Lia), Will, Josie, Arlo, Janella, Claire, Olivia, John, Jennifer, Katherine, Christina, Jake, Drew, Chloe and Joe. David was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph. He is survived by his sisters Betty (Jim) Silianoff, Woodland Hills,Ca; Norma (Craig) Casper, Las Vegas, Nv; Mary Ann Clark, Encino, Ca; Donna Wheat, Agoura, Ca. and numerous nieces and nephews. David was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 285, and the Elks Club. David was never happier than when spending an evening with family, watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals and playing pitch with his sons. David’s loyalty and devotion to family was unparalleled. His greatest, personal legacy was an abiding love for his religious faith, his bride Betty, his six sons and “outlaws” and eighteen grandchildren. A Rosary for David will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2013 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Following the rosary, from 1 -2 p.m. respects may be paid to the family at the church. A Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Following the mass, all family and friends are welcome to attend an Open House in Celebration of David’s Life, at Soangetaha Country Club, from 4-7 pm. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, OSF St. Mary Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice. Private family interment will be at a later date in Monmouth. "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.”
