David R. Deatherage, 65, Canyon Lake, TX passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2021. He was born to Shirley and Ralph Deatherage on October 6, 1955 in Galesburg, IL and was raised by his mother and stepfather Charles Thompson. He moved to San Antonio Texas after high school, and loving the warm weather and opportunities made it his permanent home until his passing. He married Catherine Larsen and their union produced a daughter, Kristen whom he loved dearly and was always so proud of everything she accomplished. He graduated from Galesburg High School and later in life attended college graduating from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He spent most of his career in journalism, marketing and web design, and later started a small business from home. In his spare time David loved to take mini vacations sight-seeing and festivals, and enjoyed his sailboat on Canyon Lake. He lived his dream when asked to sail with a small crew to the British Virgin Islands for two weeks. He loved traveling to Mexico to embrace the culture, and was self-taught in Spanish, eventually becoming his second language. He retired in June 2019. David is survived by his mother Shirley Thompson, daughter Kristen{Joseph) Eberhardt, two sisters Donna {Chris) Reische and Diane Deatherage, a half-sister Sherry {Tom) Roach and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, a brother Daniel Deatherage, maternal grandparents Claude and Hazel Kirkman, and his father. Cremation rites were accorded. A private family celebration is planned at a later date.
