Deacon Jim Haneghan, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2020. Jim was born in Galesburg, IL on December 29, 1944, to Joseph and Hazel Haneghan. He attended Corpus Christi High School. He married Linda Thiele in 1965. At one point he weighed 190 pounds. Jim’s greatest joy was making his grandchildren smile, which he often did with wacky surprises and absurd games. He had a great sense of humor and an unmatched sense of direction along with a kind heart and a wide range of interests, including coins, stamps, road trips, 50’s music, games, and a group of close friends who stayed that way from grade school until the end. During his career, Jim owned several businesses in Galesburg, including Haneghan Standard service station and Haneghan Brothers TV. He was a salesman for lines of businesses ranging from Newton Manufacturing to Wilson Paper to Protexall uniforms. Jim was ordained a Permanent Deacon in 1997 in the Catholic Church, serving at St. Patrick’s Church. He also provided pastoral care for Hospice patients through OSF. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda, his brothers Carl and Jerry (Glenda) Haneghan, and his sister Jane (Haneghan) Wessels. He is also survived by his daughters Tricia (Jonathan Nystrom) Haneghan and Erin (Wayne Whitehead) Haneghan, and by his grandchildren Haley, Kathleen, Lindsey, and Grace Nystrom and Sebastian, Lillie, Mia, Nolan, Malachi, and Adaline Haneghan. A private funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at St. Patrick’s Church; it will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/GBBCatholic/ .
