A Time To Be Born-

Deacon Jimmy Louis Turner, 68, Galesburg, IL transitioned to his heavenly home at 10:36 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL. He was born on September 24, 1956, in Moro, Arkansas to Curnel and Dorothy Mae Turner. From this union nine children were born; he was their seventh child. Both of his parents, grandparents, and five siblings: Oliver G. Turner, Carl S. Turner, Alberta Turner, Dennis Turner, and Jerry Turner have preceded him in death.


A Time To Live-

Over the years Jimmy Louis had several nicknames: Brick, J.T. and Ole Skool.


Jimmy grew up in Galesburg, where he attended Galesburg Senior High School and Carl Sandburg Junior College. He worked for Smithfield Farmland Foods in Monmouth, IL for over 30 years. He also worked for Tysons Foods in Joslin, IL, and Harris Construction and Pizza Hut in Galesburg.


Jimmy Louis Turner served as a deacon at New Home Missionary Baptist Church for over 25 years, and as the chairman of deacons most of those years. His involvement in the church were many: Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Laymen, Choir, and his favorite job “The Barbecue Team”. Favorite scripture was Psalm 23.


Jimmy loved watching the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and WWE wrestling. He was a devout chess and spade player. Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite phrases were “I gave you the best years of my life” and “What about Me”.


A Time To Die-

Jimmy Louis leaves to cherish his memory, his two sisters, Christene (Glenn) Jones and Pearlie Jean Turner of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving are one brother Billy (Regina) Turner of Chicago Heights, Illinois; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Turner of Galesburg; Uncle Nathaniel Turner, Sr. of Phoenix, Arizona; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


A visitation for Jimmy Louis will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at New Home Missionary Baptist Church, Galesburg, Illinois. Homegoing services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kemp Jones officiating. Burial will follow at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. The funeral service will be live streamed via the funeral home website and online expressions of sympathy can be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
