DeVena Frances Baker, 84, of Galesburg, died on Saturday, September 2, 2017, 10:05 AM, at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.DeVena was born on January 31, 1933, in Galesburg. She is the daughter of Lester Everett and Vashti Ola Opal (Lunt) La Follette. She is survived by five sons, Jerry Hendricks of Missouri, Robert Hendricks of Monmouth, Clyde Hendricks of Mt. Pulaski, Jay Churn and James Churn both of Galesburg; two daughters, Claudia Moellmann of Missouri, and Kelly Mixon of Galesburg; a brother, Crosiar LaFollette of Galesburg; and a sister Carol Kay Davis of East Galesburg; nineteen grandchildren, numerous great-grand children and great-great grandchildren. DeVena was preceded in death by her son Dean Churn. DeVena worked as a LPN at Knox County Nursing Home, Galesburg Research Hospital for twelve years, and Henry C. Hill Correctional Facility, retiring in 1992. She was a member of T.O.P.S and was involved in the First Church of God. Per DeVena’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held on September 7, 2017, 1:00 PM, at the First Church of God, 1080 Harrison Street, Galesburg, Illinois. A private family burial of cremated remains will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials in DeVena’s honor may be donated to First Church of God. Expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
