Don A. Totten, 82, Galesburg, passed away surrounded by his loving family, after a short sudden illness, on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, 3:13 AM, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.   Don was born on March 22, 1935 in Aledo, Illinois. He was the son of Loska H. and Katherine L. (Foster) Totten. Don married his soul mate and best friend, Evelyn Holmes on September 14, 1957 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg, Illinois. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Evelyn, of Galesburg; two sons, Mark (Sherry) Totten, of Galesburg, and John (Pamela) Totten of Bainbridge Island, Washington; a sister, Dorothy (Wayne) Schrock of Sugarcreek, Ohio; three grandchildren, Katie Totten, and Jessica Totten, both of Galesburg, and Tasha Totten of Bothell, Washington; and two great-grandchildren, Breccan Magee and Rogan Magee, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Richard (Judy) Totten.   Don graduated from Monmouth schools. He was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps, serving our country from 1954 –1957. He was serviceman of the month and a member of the military honor guard in Yokosuka, Japan. Don worked a combined 37 years at Simpson-Powelson Lumber and Alexander Lumber retiring in 1997. Following retirement, he worked part-time at Hansen Lumber.  Don had a passion for duck hunting, was an excellent duck caller and particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons. He was a big fan of John Wayne and John Deere tractors. Most of all, Don was a family man. He loved to spend time with his family, and always put them first.   Per Don’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials in Don’s honor may be dedicated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1001 Michigan Ave., Galesburg, IL 61401. Expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at http://www.watsonthomas.com .
