Donald “Spike” Burand, 82, of Galesburg, died on Friday, January 11, 2019, 5:30 PM, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Donald was born on April 5, 1936 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was the son of Ralph and Lorraine (Reed) Burand. Donald married Rose Mary Nolte on February 12, 1957 in Savanna. Spike is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Mary; two children, Chris Burand and Donna Stewart, both of Galesburg; brothers-in-law, Don (Karen) Nolte and Robert (Connie) Nolte, both of Savanna; and two sisters-in-law, Marcie Davis of Clinton, Iowa and Cassie Nolte of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Etta Burand. Donald worked for the Burlington Northern Rail Road and then later Amtrak for a total of 41 years. He retired in 1997. Donald was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He also liked to golf and play cards. Most of all, Spike loved to spend time with his family. Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time. A burial of cremated remains will be held in Savanna at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
