View Don's Tribute Video Donald William Ascher, Jr., 57, of Galesburg, died at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born November 9, 1957 in Galesburg the son of Donald William and Eva Loraine Pennington Ascher, Sr.  He married Brenda L. Weaver on September 1, 1990 in Las Vegas, NV.  He is survived by his wife Brenda of Galesburg; one daughter, Amy (Dustin) Hodges of Normal; one son, Benjamin (Cassandra) Ascher of Omaha, NE; and one grandson due in September, Henry William Ascher.  He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Kubitz of Mt. Vernon, Phyllis Peacock of Las Vegas, NV, and Kathi (Jerry) Tafoya of Highlands Ranch, CO.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Don worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe as an engineer since 1977.  In his free time Don enjoyed being with his family and loved to host holiday gatherings and having his family over.  Don enjoyed writing poetry but was a secret poet.  He also enjoyed listening to classic rock and playing the drums.  He enjoyed working with model trains.  Don was also a member of BLET 644. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded.  A celebration of life will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Private family interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus or a charity of the donor’s choice.
