Doris Ann Bashem, 90, of Des Plaines, IL, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL. Doris was born November 6, 1930 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Theodore Frank and Eleanor Theresa (Waldera) Galuska. Doris graduated with her associates degree from Wright College in Chicago, IL and went on to become a secretary. She worked for many years, most notably for Motorola in Franklin Park, IL and Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, IL. Doris married Carlton Terry Bashem on June 4, 1960 at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Elmwood Park, IL. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1980. Doris is survived by her four children: one son, Michael Bashem of Galesburg, IL; three daughters, Kathleen (Mark Kelly) Bashem of Galesburg, IL, Margaret (Shawn) Hudson of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Mary Beth (Scott) Breslin of Galesburg, IL; and one brother, David (Dorothy) Galuska of Park Ridge, IL. Doris is also survived by her eight beloved grandchildren, Evan (Lindsay) Kelly, Walker Kelly, Eleanor Kelly, Elyse Hudson, Holden Hudson, Nicholas (Madeline) Breslin, Andrew Breslin, and Jane Breslin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her husband Carlton, Doris was preceded in death by two brothers, Linus (Teri) Galuska and Ted Galuska; and one sister, Jane Galuska. Doris was very devoted to her family and always put her family first. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Des Plaines, IL. Doris was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered for her baking and cooking skills. She loved animals, especially cats and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Cremation rites will be accorded. Family burial of cremated remains will be at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, IL in the spring of 2022. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Rd, Deerfield, IL 60015.
