Dorothy J. Brandenburg

Dorothy Jean Brandenburg, 89, of Galesburg, passed away at 10:26 a.m. on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Knox County Nursing Home with her loved ones by her side. She was born on July 23, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Palma (Danialson) Larson. Dorothy graduated from Mabel High School and went on to receive her diploma from Kahler Hospitals School of Nursing in 1954. After graduating, she married Ira A. Brandenburg on April 3, 1954. Dorothy worked as a devoted and caring Registered Nurse at Galesburg Cottage Hospital until her retirement in 1993. She enjoyed doing crosswords, singing, and playing the piano. She is survived by three sons, Mark (Trudy) Brandenburg of Galesburg, Kevin Brandenburg of Galesburg, and Craig (Nicole) Brandenburg of Knoxville. Dorothy is also survived by her brother, Joseph “Sonny” (Deanne) Larson Jr. of Mabel, MN; two sisters, Beverly Holmes of Edmonton, Canada and Phyllis Emery of Mabel, MN; six grandchildren, April (Josh) Johnson, Josh Brandenburg, Crystal (David) Staggs, Wesley (Jennifer) Brandenburg, Jake Brandenburg, and Lucas Brandenburg; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 26, 1993; and her daughter Dorinda Brandenburg. Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held on April 3, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Henderson Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Knox County Nursing Home.
