E. Laurane Worden

Laurane Worden, 94, of Galesburg, died on November 23, 2017, 8:20 PM, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.  Laurane was born on October 24, 1923, in Knoxville. She was the daughter of Oscar and Ada (Wheeler) Pierson. She married William F. Worden on January 16, 1948, in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2000. Laurane is survived by her three children, Jeanette (Bernard) Daly of Iowa City, Ann (Richard) Brodt, and David (Kathy) Worden both of Galesburg; six grandchildren, John (Sam) Daly, Bernard (Kari) Daly, Mary (Varun) Tandon, James (Jessica) Brodt, Monica (Chad) Long, Kevin (Paul) Brodt and five great-grandchildren. Laurane was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Bernard, her brother, Harold Pierson and sister-in-law, Roxie Pierson. Laurane graduated from Knoxville High School in 1941. She then entered the Cottage School of Nursing and graduated in 1946. She joined the Cadet Nursing Corp from 1943-1946. Laurane was a registered nurse for over 40 years, working at various hospitals and clinics in the area. She retired in 1986. Laurane enjoyed gardening, golfing, and quilting. She was an avid pinochle player. She was a fifty-year member of the Lake Bracken Country Club. Most of all, Laurane loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 10-11 am, at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at the funeral home, with Rev. William T. Miller officiating. A private family burial will be held on a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg. Memorials in Laurane’s honor may be given to COSTA Catholic Academy.
