Edward "The Falcon" Stevens

Edward Wallace “The Falcon” Stevens, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois, died on October 2, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa.

Ed was born February 11, 1944 in Galesburg the son of Daniel Harold and Juanita Alice (Garman) Stevens. After graduating from Galesburg High School, Ed served in the US Army. Ed worked as an

insurance agent in Galesburg for over 50 years. He also worked as a home improvement specialist for over 25 years.

Ed married Vicki A. Miller on May 12, 1979 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2013. Ed is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Todd) Newburgh of Kansas City, Missouri and Stephanie (John) Washabaugh of McHenry; a son, Jason (Erin) Stevens of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, including Charlie Funk and Zach Wilke whom Ed and Vicki raised; and one great grandson. Ed is also survived by his significant other, Mary Lydic of Galesburg; two brothers, Fred (Kay) Stevens and David (Cathy) Stevens both of Galesburg; and one sister, Lori (Bill) Heiman of Galesburg. Along with his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by a son Mark Wilke on March 3, 2010; and one brother Danny Stevens on June 23, 2022.

Ed coached baseball in Galesburg for many years, also volunteering many years in the Babe Ruth League having served as president. He was also instrumental in bringing the first Illinois State Babe Ruth Tournament to Galesburg. Ed loved bowling and served as president of the Galesburg Bowling Association. He also enjoyed playing cards and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Ed was a man who put others first and was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a piece of advice when asked. He was high-spirited and never met a stranger.

Visitation for Ed will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the funeral home. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be designated later.
