Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Kisler

Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Kisler, 70, of Abingdon, Illinois died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2022 at Allure of Lake Storey, Galesburg, Illinois.

Betsy was born January 1, 1952 in Galesburg, the daughter of James Hunter and Mary Ann (Hoover) McMaster. She graduated from Costa High School in Galesburg and attended Cornell College. On April 20, 1974 Betsy married Larry B. Kisler, Jr. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg. In 1989 Betsy began working at the children’s library at John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon. She went on to become the head librarian, retiring after 25 years in 2014.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Larry of Abingdon; one son, Eric (Kelley) Kisler of Abingdon; one daughter, Morgan (Matt) Porter of Washington, Illinois; her pride and joy, six grandchildren, Gabriella, Mallorie, Jameson, Amelia, Nora, and Matthew, with a seventh grandchild due in early 2023. Betsy is also survived by two sisters, Sue (Tom) Ervin of LeClaire, Iowa and Jeanie (Jerry) Edney of Olathe, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betsy was an avid reader, always having a book with her including her “train” book which she kept in her car. Betsy was active in TOPS for many years, enjoyed listening to music, spending time with her grandchildren, was an amazing cook, and loved to entertain. Betsy enjoyed her trips to the salon to get her nails done. She loved everyone, was fun to be with, and carried a commanding presence when she entered a room. A hole is left in the hearts of all who knew and loved Betsy, she will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
