Ellen Louise Wignall, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Altona, Illinois, died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
Ellen was born March 15, 1940 in Galesburg, the daughter of Laurence and Agatha (Trone) Mitchell. Ellen first married Willard Weedman. Together they had five children. They later divorced. Ellen married Richard P. Wignall on February 6, 1995 in Cambridge, Illinois. Dick preceded her in death on February 8, 2020.
Ellen is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Kevin) Carnes of Galesburg, Laura Hilligoss of Galesburg, and Betsy (Ronnie) Ebany of Oquawka, Illinois; two sons, Rodney Weedman of Hampton, Illinois and Buddy (Denise) Weedman of Yorkville, Illinois; ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Ellen is also survived by three stepsons, Jeff (Sharon) Wignall, Marc (Carol) Wignall, and Mike Wignall all of Alliance, Nebraska; and one stepdaughter, Debbie Wignall of Galesburg. Along with her husband and parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her nine brothers and sisters; and one great grandson, Justin.
Ellen worked for many years at OMC Gale Products and worked at the Caramel Corn Station at the Sandburg Mall for several years. Ellen had many talents, ranging from ceramics to painting. She loved going to casinos and enjoyed the horses she and Dick had for several years. Ellen and Dick owned a two-seat airplane that they enjoyed flying together, traveling to many different states. Their taste for adventure extended into many years sailing.
Cremation will be accorded following private family visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Give Kids the World at www.gktw.org.
