Elsie M. Shragal

Mrs. Elsie M. Shragal, 89, of Galesburg, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Elsie was born on July 21, 1923 in Portage des Sioux, MO, the daughter of Tobias R. and Mary Albertina (Mallioux) Boschert.  She married Joseph S. “Bud” Shragal, Jr on September 28, 1946 in St. Louis, MO.  He preceded her in death on December 6, 1995. Elsie is survived by one son, Joseph T. “J.T.” Shragal; one daughter, Pamela M. Winter, both of Galesburg; one sister, June Steinmetz of Florissant, MO; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Boschert of Florissant, MO; and one brother-in-law, Robert Shragal, of Galesburg.  She is also survived by numerous family and friends. Elsie and Bud were proprietors of East Main Bowl and Midway Tap for many years, where they were well known for their turtle dinners.  Elsie was an avid bowler and was inducted in to the Galesburg Bowling Hall of Fame on March 4, 1989.  She enjoyed working in her garden and was very proud of her beautiful yard.  Elsie always enjoyed having a good time and loved to dance.  She also made beautiful hand painted ceramics.  Elsie was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals Fan, and in later years became a Chicago Bulls fan.  She was recently recognized by the Bulls Organization as a #1 Bulls Fan. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.
