Ethel Flaherty, 98, of Knoxville, died 8 p.m. Sunday evening, January 22, 2012 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, where she had been a resident for almost 18 years. Ethel was born May 10, 1913 in New Windsor, the daughter of Victor and Anna (Peterson) Carlson. She married John Flaherty. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1984. She is survived by two sons, Michael of Oldsmar, FL and Rodney of Galesburg; two sisters, Elnora Cowser of Woodhull and Alverna Parker of Rock Island; 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services for Ethel will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home. Rev. Norman Mendell will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg.
