Mrs. Evelyn G. Leeson, 93, of Galesburg, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Woodridge Supportive Living Residence, Galesburg. Evelyn was born May 21, 1919 in Bloomington, the daughter of Valentine and Rose (Kinney) Grimm. She married Thomas Leeson on January 24, 1942 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2006. Evelyn is survived by her pride and joy; three sons, Michael (and Lynne) of Hendersonville, TN, Dr. Philip (and Susan) of Dubuque, IA, and Edward (and Patti) of Galesburg; two daughters, Patricia Leeson of Barcelona, Spain and Mary (and Darrell) McGee of Galesburg; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Tom; two brothers and five sisters. Evelyn was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, belonging to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Society of Foresters and O.A.K.S. Evelyn was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and completing jigsaw puzzles and for several years she volunteered as a Reading Buddy at Nielsen School. A Funeral Mass for Evelyn will be 12 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Rev. William Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg. The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The family wants to extend special thanks to all the staff at Woodridge for their attentive, compassionate care.
