Evelyn "Joyce" Faust

Evelyn “Joyce” Faust, 80, of Galesburg, died Friday, February 23, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.

She was born January 22, 1944 in San Luis Obispo, California, the daughter of Marion and Lorraine Marie (Litzau) Hook. After graduating from Savanna High School in 1962, Joyce attended Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing and received her bachelor’s degree. She had various jobs throughout the years including bookkeeping for Sully’s and working in the home furnishing department at JC Penney’s. Joyce also was a registered nurse at the OSF Galesburg Clinic for many years, retiring in 2007. She married Frederick “Allan” Faust on August 13, 1966 in Rock Island, Illinois.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years, Allan Faust of Galesburg; three sons: Dr. Chris (Dr. Liz) Faust of Solon, Iowa, Scott Faust, and Matthew Faust, both of Galesburg; three grandsons: Conner (Allison) Faust of Davenport, Iowa, Jacek Faust and Soren Faust, both of Solon, Iowa. Also surviving is one great-granddaughter, Savannah Faust; one brother, Robert (Kathy) Hook of Coal Valley, Illinois; one sister, Judy Nyquist of Rock Island, Illinois; and her beloved dog, Beafus. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Hook.

Joyce was raised in the Catholic faith and later in life converted to Lutheran faith. She enjoyed crocheting, arts and crafts, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles on her iPad. Traveling with Allan was one of her greatest joys in life; they traveled from Nova Scotia to San Diego, California, Washington to visit family, Hawaii, and a Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). Her and Allan were longtime faithful contributors to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Joyce was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory in Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society or to the American Diabetes Association.
