Fred L. Shepherd

Fred L. Shepherd, 87, of Galesburg, went to be with the Lord at 8:20 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013. Fred was born on January 4, 1926 in Galesburg, the son of Freddie B. and Dora Gladys (Dodd) Shepherd.  He married Inez Weedman on February 14, 1948.  He later married Barbara James on July 26, 1963 in Moline.  She preceded him in death 1999.  He then married Lucy Bundy on May 25, 2001.  She survives of Galesburg.  Also surviving is four sons, Danny and Michael (Sandy) Shepherd both of Galesburg, Larry of Washington, IA, and George McConnell of LaHarpe; three daughters, Sonda (Steven) LaPorte of Galesburg, Alice Reynolds of LaHarpe, and Lois McConnell; one brother, Leonard Shepherd of Aurora; and one sister, Barb K. Carmen of Trout Lake, MI.  He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.   Fred was preceded in death by three sons, Chuck James  in September 2001, Roger McConnell, and Ray McConnell; eight brothers; and two sisters. Fred worked in construction for many years and spent his last ten years working as a greeter at Wal-Mart.  He retired in 2010.  Fred was a member at Colonial Baptist Church in Galesburg.  He enjoyed tinkering with many different things especially automobiles and woodworking.  Fred loved to visit with people and never met a stranger. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Colonial Baptist Church.  Rev. Darrell Grimm will officiate.  Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.  Burial of cremated remains will be in Rio Baptist Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Baptist Church.
