Fred R. Lynch, 85, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Monday May 2, 2016 at 6:08 p.m. Fred was born to Fred E. and Martha Pearl Cronkite Lynch on May 9th 1930 in East Galesburg, the 6th of 9 children. He graduated from East Galesburg School with high honors. He married Sarah May Adams on October 31, 1949 in Galesburg. Fred is survived by his wife Sarah of 66 years; one son, Larry D. (JoAnn) Lynch of Knoxville; two daughters, Karen S. Lynch of Galesburg and Linann (Richard) Biddle of Knoxville; one sister, Donna Johnson of Jefferson City, MO; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Fred was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Fred was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Knoxville and served on the property committee. Throughout his long working career Fred worked for Purington Brick Co. in East Galesburg and Dick Blick Co. where he designed the 4 silk screen printer and designed personal cat furniture for Doris Day. He also worked for Knoxville Schools and the City of Knoxville. Fred owned and operated Lynch’s Sport Shop in Knoxville for many years. Fred enjoyed fishing, golfing (with friends at Laurel Greens), woodworking, puzzles, art, and spending time with his whole family. Fred was very active in the Knoxville community, serving on the Knoxville Planning Commission, helped create James Knox Park in Knoxville, and served as the vice president for the Knoxville Business Association for many years. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Knoxville for many years. While working for Purington, Fred was the vice president for the Brick and Clay workers union. Private graveside services will be held at Knoxville Cemetery. A celebration of life will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at James Knox Park, Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or OSF Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
