Frederick “Allan” Faust, 86, of Galesburg, died Thursday, March 28, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 24, 1937 in Galesburg, the son of Charles Stuart and Mary Elizabeth (Hall) Faust. Allan married Evelyn “Joyce” Faust on August 13, 1966 in Rock Island, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2024. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957 and DeVry School of Electronics in Chicago in 1969. Allan served in the US Army in the 5th Missile Battalion, 39th Artillery, stationed in Germany from 1959 until he was honorably discharged in 1962. Allan had worked for the State of Illinois, ran a daycare center with his wife, worked for a time at Admiral (later Maytag), and as a millwright at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1971 until his retirement in 1998 after 27 years of government service. He won many awards for his contributions and suggestions that ultimately led to safe, efficient ways of working as well as maintaining structurally sound mechanical operations, saving precious man hours and unnecessary wear and tear on industrial equipment. He enjoyed his solid 26 years of retirement with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are three sons: Dr. Chris (Dr. Liz) Faust of Solon, Iowa, Scott Faust, and Matthew Faust, both of Galesburg; three grandsons: Conner (Allison) Faust of Davenport, Iowa, Jacek Faust and Soren Faust, both of Solon, Iowa. Also surviving is one great-granddaughter, Savannah Faust; one sister, Margaret Mueller of Knoxville, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Beafus. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Joyce; one sister, Virginia Griffith; and one brother, James Faust.

Allan was of the Lutheran Faith but recently had converted to Catholicism. He was a jack of all trades. Allan enjoyed doing artwork, pottery, and building things. Traveling with Joyce was one of his greatest joys in life; they traveled from Nova Scotia to San Diego, California, Washington to visit family, Hawaii, and a Tiger Cruise aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). Him and Joyce were longtime faithful contributors to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Allan was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
