Gary L. Sage, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully, Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
Gary was born on May 5, 1939, the son of Ross T. and Zelma (Robbins) Sage. He married Betty Dennison and later married Marilyn L. (Flaar) Caulkins on April 6, 1996, in Galesburg. She survives as does two sons, Mark (Becky) Sage of Rantoul, Illinois and David (Jim) Sage of Bronxville, New York; one daughter, Terri (Jim) Sage of Monmouth, Illinois; two stepsons, Todd (Kari) Caulkins of Peoria, Illinois and Bruce (Reggie) Caulkins of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren, Carl (Mary) Sage, Amber Johnson-Garcia, and Elizabeth (Brian) Johnson-Lee; and several great grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Erwin and Roscoe; and two sisters, Wilda Carlson and Doris Chandler.
Gary worked as a baker at Barne’s Super Value for several years prior to working as a chef and baker at Meling’s Restaurant in Monmouth, and later retired as the gatekeeper at the Knox County Landfill. Gary was a longtime member of the Western Illinois Antique Auto Club and owned many beautiful antique cars over the years. Gary also leaves behind his beloved cat, J.R.
Mausoleum services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Galesburg,
casual attire is welcome. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. A celebration of life will follow at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Compassus or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
