Mr. Gary Wayne Gohlinghorst, 60, of Galesburg died at 5:34 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. He was born July 13, 1949, in Marshall, Missouri to Albert W. and Florence Horstmann Gohlinghorst. He married Nancy D. Clay on October 8, 1983, in Knoxville at St. Mary’s Chapel. She survives. Also surviving is a son, Matthew W. Gohlinghorst and fiancé Jaque Howard of Galesburg, a sister Joyce (Roger) Reinmann of Bloomington, brother-in-law Darrell (JoAnn) Clay of Oak Brook, sister-in-law Donna Nielsen of Lakewood, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967. He attended two years at Valparaiso University. Gary served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973 as a military police officer. He worked as an electrician for BNSF Railroad for over 30 years retiring in 2009. Gary was a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Illini Quail Program, National Wild Turkey Federation, past member of American Brittany Club, 4-H shooting sports committee, and Pheasants Forever. He was a member of Coldbrook Christian Church where he was a deacon. He had a passion for hunting, spending many hours in the duck blind on the Mississippi with his buddies, or trap shooting. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 13 at Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 with the family present from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rights will be accorded after the service. Memorial may be made to Coldbrook Christian Church or to the Knox County 4-H Shooting Sports program. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Funeral Home.
