Genevieve Yaw

Genevieve Yaw, 91, of Galesburg, died at 8:57 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2014 at home.  Genevieve was born May 15, 1923 in Alden, IA, the daughter of Max and Edith (Huber) Ries.  She married William Yaw in Alden, IA.  He preceded her in death in 2000.  Genevieve is survived by four sons, Steven Yaw of Burlington, VT, Robert Yaw of Galesburg; Richard Yaw of St. Louis, MO, and Randy (Julie) Yaw of New York, NY; four grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.   She was also preceded in death by one sister, Ardith Shelley. Genevieve received her BA and MA from Grinnell College.  She was the head of music at Carl Sandburg College for 20 years.  She also taught private music lessons.  Genevieve enjoyed playing the piano in her free time and being with her family.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Burial of cremated remains will be in Alden Cemetery, Alden, IA.  Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
