Gordon Lasater Aulgur, age 69 of Galesburg, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, after a brief illness. Gordon was born in Lebanon, Tennessee on November 17, 1942 the son of Raymond Jewel Aulgur and Gustava Dixie (Lasater) Aulgur. The son of a bridge and dam superintendent, Gordon spent much of his childhood moving throughout the United States, living in Arkansas, Georgia, New York, South Dakota and Tennessee. After graduating from Newport High School, Newport, Tennessee, Gordon received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arkansas. While attending the University of Arkansas he met his future wife Trudy Paulson. Gordon and Trudy were united in marriage in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on May 30, 1964. Gordon’s first job out of college was with Allis Chambers as an Engineer in Springfield. He eventually became Vice President of Manufacturing at Maytag in Galesburg, retiring in 1998. During retirement Gordon enjoyed golfing, downhill skiing, restoring British sports cars, and spending time with his family. Gordon was very generous of his time serving many philanthropic organizations in the Galesburg area. Gordon is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Mary Gertrude “Trudy” Aulgur, four children; Lisa Marie (Mark) Viehweg and Christine Ann(Timothy) Lawson, of Galesburg, Gordon Chadwick “Chad” (Jill) Aulgur of Nashville, Tennessee and John Myles Aulgur of Chicago; Six Grandchildren, Mark Christopher Thatcher, Elizabeth Marie Viehweg, Matthew Arthur Viehweg Alexander Gregory Aulgur, Jacob Bradley Aulgur and Julia Ann Lawson; a brother John Paul(Toni) Aulgur of Hot Springs, Arkansas, a niece Ashlea Aulgur Terhune and three nephews Jeffery Aulgur, Donald Ash and Dirk Ash. He was preceded in death by his mother and father as well as older siblings Joy Ray Herrin and Ronald Jewel Aulgur. Visitation will be held at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26 from 5:00-8:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday, September 27 at 10:00am.Immediately following the service a memorial luncheon will be served at Soangataha Country Club. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in the family cemetery, Elizabeth Hall Cemetery in New Blaine, AR. The family requests contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church or Costa Catholic Academy.
