Gregory C. Davis, 73, of Galesburg, passed peacefully at home with his family by his side at 6:02 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021. Greg was born November 1, 1947 in Macomb, the son of Charles Albert and Margaret Evelyn (Heffren) Davis. He married Mary A. Hannen on June 6, 1974 in Moline. Greg is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary; two daughters, Amy (Shane) Simpson of Crawfordsville, IA and Alicia (the late Chad) Condreay of Galesburg; one son, Brad (Marcy) Davis of Galesburg; and one sister, Teresa (Beryl) Jones of Chatham. Greg is also survived by his beloved seven grandchildren, Brett, Stephanie, and Makenna Simpson, Alexa and Adyson Eastburg, and Braden and Benton Davis; and one great granddaughter, Lillyann. Greg was preceded in death by his parents. Greg graduated from Western Illinois University and received his real estate license in 1974. He began working at Country Insurance in Galesburg and went on to work for Ron Davis and Dick Rozynek Realty. He later went into banking as the Vice President at Associated Bank in Galesburg. Greg, along with his wife Mary became co-owners of Century 21 Tucker Swanson Realty in Galesburg and after many years retired and sold the business in 2017. Greg was an active member of numerous Galesburg area organizations including, President of the Midwest Builders Associaton; a member of the City of Galesburg Planning Commission, and Galesburg Board of Realtors. He was a member and past President of the Galesburg Noon Lion’s Club and a past member and President of the Carl Sandburg College Foundation Board. Greg was also a member of Elks Lodge #894 as well as TIPS. Greg was mission driven and extremely dedicated to serving his community but was also deeply devoted to his family. He enjoyed many hours of attending his children’s events while they were growing up and was a dedicated grandpa attending his grandchildren’s events as well. He had a great passion for vintage cars, restoring both a 1966 GTO and a 1969 Camaro. He was a huge sports fanatic and enjoyed watching about any sport he could. Greg loved spending time boating at Oak Run, listening to music especially Elvis Presley, and was an avid coin collector. As his grandchildren describe it best “Our Papa, the man, the myth, the legend has completed his work here on Earth and although his time has been short, his impact has been huge. We will continue to honor you in all the days ahead.” Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, with the funeral service immediately following. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing, face masks, and limited occupancy will be enforced. Those wishing to attend the funeral virtually may log on to www.watsonthomas.com. at 11 a.m. Friday. Entombment will follow services at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
