Helen B. Stewart

Helen B. Stewart, 78, of Galesburg, died at 6:21 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 at home. Helen was born on November 8, 1940, in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Lyle E. and F. Catherine (Coultas) Halsey. She married, Morris C. Stewart, Sr. on November 9, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa. He survives. Helen is survived by her four children, Morris “Bud” Stewart, Jr. of Galesburg, Pamela (Kim) Kelly of Oak Run, Jeffrey (Ruth) Stewart and Annette (David) Taylor, both of East Galesburg; two brothers, Bill Halsey of Galesburg and Arlo (Karen) Halsey of Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Heather) Kelly, Hilary (Eddie) Kelly, Kirsten (Josh) Autery, Jamie (Cory) Adolphson, Josh (Sara) Taylor, Elizabeth (Zach) Farmer, Kayla Morrisey; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Charlie.  Helen attended Farmington schools. She received her Associates in Licensed Practical Nursing at Carl Sandburg College. Helen worked as a CNA and later as an LPN for doctors’ Kale and Paralikar for 16 years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Red Hats, TOPS, OAKS Senior Club, and the Elks Club where she served as President for a year. Helen attended Bethany Baptist Church. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m.  Pastor John Carlson will officiate.  Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Galesburg Rescue Mission, or the Knox County Humane Society.
