Helen F. Collura

Helen Frances Collura,88, of Galesburg, died at home Saturday, October 16, 2021. Helen was born July 9, 1933 at home in St. Augustine, IL the daughter of Violet Dell (Colwell) and Claude Dallas Smith.  She married Joe Collura on April 11, 1953 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg.  Joe preceded her in death on December 2, 1992.  Helen is survived by two sons, John (Ranee) Collura and James Collura both of Galesburg; one daughter, Julie (Dustin Dusenberry) Anselmi of Rock Island; three grandchildren, Joseph (Amber) Bowers, Elisha (Bob) Horn, and Melissa (Michael) Phillips; and five great grandchildren, Brodey, Kendlynne, Claire, Justin, and Ryan.  Along with her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Collura; one brother, Harold Smith; and three sisters, Evelyn Young, Ilene Johnson, and Ruth Stocco. Helen graduated from Avon High School and spent most of her life being a loving and devoted wife and mother to her family.  However, she also worked part time for several years at Admiral.  Helen was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.  She enjoyed crafts, mostly creating unique applique towels.  She also enjoyed cooking and making candys and cookies to give to her family and friends during the holidays.  Helen also enjoyed many years caring for children in her home after school. Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
