Jack M. Olson

Jack Martin Olson, 87, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 10:30 p.m. at home Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Jack was born February 27, 1933 at home in rural Fulton County, the son of Dane and Alma (Thompson) Olson.  He married Barbara Joan Allen on February 11, 1953 at the Adair Methodist Church.  Six days later Jack left for the Army, serving in Korea.  He was honorably discharged on February 9, 1955.  Jack came home and farmed in Fulton County near Avon for many years.  Jack and Barb eventually moved to Galesburg, where they owned and operated Sudzy’s Laundry with their daughter and son-in-law for several years.  Jack is survived by his loving wife, Barb; twin daughters, Dana (Phil) Price of Galesburg and Debbie (Jeff Myers) Forrester of Macomb; one son, Don (Sue) Olson of Libertyville; five grandchildren, Jaime (Eric) Schmitt, Jason (Jaime) Price, Jaclyn (Ben) Proctor, Laura (Donnie) Bunner, and Josh Olson; and ten great grandchildren.  Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Since Jack lost his mother at age four, he centered his life around his entire family.  Jack always loved horses and especially enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby and following the triple crown.  He enjoyed tending to his yard and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg.  Jack will be remembered as strong but gentle and quiet yet reassuring man. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory.  Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  The family also requests that the Covid-19 guidelines be followed and will understand if you are unable to attend. Burial will follow at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in Jack’s memory to Hospice Compassus or the Adair Fire Department.
