James B. Simpson, 61, of Altona, died at on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center. Jim was born on November 4, 1949 in Galesburg, the son of Benjamin and Ruth (Cecil) Simpson.  He married Lecia Swearingen on October 6, 1980 in Wataga.  He is survived by his wife, Lecia of Altona; three sons, James M. Simpson of Peoria, Christopher P. Simpson of Columbus, OH, and Tristan E. Simpson of Los Angeles, CA; two daughters, Kerri (Richard) Summers of East Peoria and Holly (Zach Hardy) Simpson of Galesburg; and three grandchildren, Tyler, Gabriel, and Brooke Simpson.  Jim is also survived by four sisters, Linda Ward of Galesburg, Joyce (Joe) Castro of Tulare, CA, Jane (Allen) Mahnesmith of Wataga, and Dorothy (Tom) Ping of Oreana. Jim worked as a restaurant manager for many years.  He served in the US Army.  Jim was a member of Spoon River Flyers, RC Club.  For Jim woodworking was a passion and he truly enjoyed building furniture.  He also was very particular about his yard.   Jim and Lecia enjoyed going on walks together.  He enjoyed playing card games as long as he was the winner.  Jim was of the catholic faith. Funeral services for Jim will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. Don Fitzpatrick officiating.  Military Rites will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the rosary being prayed at 8 p.m.   Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy.
